Inviting visitors to roam through a multisensory maze, multidisciplinary designer Rafael de Cárdenas of Architecture at Large collaborated with artist Sahra Motalebi on a pop-up installation on view at Cadillac House in New York. “Amaze” features a serpentine succession of imaginative interiors abuzz with optical and auditory illusions.

The immersive installation links everyday elements with whimsical details. Hidden doorways, geometric mirrors, hypnotic op-art patterns, and unexpected contours are countered by commonplace motifs to distinguish the dizzying labyrinth of design elements. A unique sound score—featuring whispers and shrieks of noise—emanates from overhead, complementing the visual stimulation while sonically scrambling the visitor experience.
