Danish textile design company Kvadrat has collaborated with three artists—Kirstine Roepstorff, Olafur Eliasson, and Søren Engsted—on their installations for the 57th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, which will be on view May 13–November 27, 2017, in Venice, Italy.
Visual artist Kirstine Roepstorff’s work, which consists of an immersive spatial theatre experience, includes a handcrafted Kvadrat tapestry. Called “Renaissance of the Night,” the tapestry was meticulously made over seven months by skilled traditional weavers. Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson’s “Green light – An artistic workshop” was created in collaboration with Thyssen-Bornemisza Art, and features Kvadrat textiles in seven hand-woven hexagonal Kinnas and rugs. Søren Engsted is a Danish performance and visual artist investigates the theme of sculpture. His work, titled “Levitation,” includes a video performance in which the artist sits cross-legged on an Indian levitation chair with at the 57th International Venice Biennale textiles.
