Last week, the IIDA NY chapter held its annual Sustainable Quilt Auction. Hosted by Steelcase, the auction showcased inspirational designs that were created from the discarded materials of our design industry. The quilts celebrate craft, community, and celebrate the importance of sustainable practices.
Over the past few months, design teams created one-of-a-kind quilts from discarded materials from fabric showrooms, product libraries, and industry samples. The bold, creative quilts were put on display at the auction for event attendees to bid on.
Proceeds from the quilts benefit Publicolor, a long-term youth development program that engages high-risk students through design education. Using design as a vehicle for involvement, Publicolor’s multi-year continuum of programs encourages academic achievement, college preparation, job readiness, and community service.
Here are eight of the highlighted quilts that were auctioned.
