Architectural Fashion in Berlin

Graz, Austria–based architecture firm INNOCAD, founded by Martin Lesjak, Contract magazine’s 2015 Designer of the Year, along with its product design label 13&9 has collaborated with fashion designer Sabrina Stadlober and electronic music producer Severin Su to create the exhibition “Architectural Fashion.”

On view through April 23 at the Architektur Galerie Berlin, the exhibition features mannequins dressed in conceptual fashions inspired by INNOCAD’s architecture, interior design, and product designs. The exhibition reinterprets three signature projects—Golden Nugget, Rolling Stones, and Moving Floors. Each fashion design, displayed on mannequins, captures qualities of its corresponding project through materials and techniques such as 3D knitting of metal yarns, laser cutting of natural stone veneer, and acoustic adjusting felt. The mannequins are positioned in front of large mirrors, blurring the boundaries of the space. A video-soundscape accompanies each design, and as visitors move away from a mirror, the individual musical pieces merge to create a unique composition.
