ArtPrize 2015, an international art competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan, began on September 23, 2015, and runs until October 11, 2015. This year’s competition features 1,554 art installations displayed in 162 public venues across three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids. Both the public and a jury judge the submissions, which are entered into four categories—Installation, 2-D, 3-D, and Time-Based.
Some of the venues this year include the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand River, Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, Grand Rapids Brewing Company, MLive Media Group, DeVos Place Convention Center, JW Marriot Grand Rapids Hotel, Sears Architects, and The B.O.B.
Rick DeVos founded ArtPrize in 2009 to honor artists and engage the public with the arts. This year, the competition includes a $40,000 curatorial fellowship and a $30,000 venue grant program.
The 2015 curatorial fellowship winners are:
- Hunter Bridwell, who will work under curator Ron Platt at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
- Amy Wilson, who will work with curator Paul Amenta at SiTE:LAB.
- Ethan Ross, who will work with curator Heather Duffy at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts.
- Elizabeth Hertl, who will work with curator Michele Bosak at the Kendall College of Art and Design.
ArtPrize will also award $220,000 in grants to participating artists and curators, as well as $200,000 to two grand prize winners and $12,500 to each category award winner.
