It’s that time again when editors and writers of magazines, websites, and blogs reminisce about the year’s biggest headlines and most memorable moments. For Contract, 2013 was marked by many such moments. Here are a few highlights, in random order:
We’re proud of the 10 issues we created in 2013. The diversity of the covers reflects the range of new products and interiors—across many typologies and around the globe—showcased within the pages of each issue (take a look through the archives of our digital edition).
Contract’s editors logged many miles to attend trade shows and other events across the country (and beyond borders), and we documented our experiences on our social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
In January 2013, the 34th Annual Interiors Awards Breakfast, presented by Contract, was attended by more than 600 people. More than a dozen excellent projects received Interiors Awards, Joey Shimoda accepted the Designer of the Year Award, and Michael Graves was honored as the Legend Award recipient. (To find out which projects and designers will be honored in 2014, purchase tickets to the 35th Annual Interiors Awards, to be held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York on January 24, here: contractdesign.com/awardsbreakfast)
We survived NeoCon! Admittedly, I sacrificed a favorite pair of shoes, but it was worth it to check out all the new products on display (read my roundup blog post, and peruse the list of Best of NeoCon winners).
Contract Editor in Chief John Czarnecki was named an honorary member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). Honorary membership is a distinction bestowed for life that recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the design profession. Congratulations, John!
The year 2013 brought even more changes at Contract: in April, I joined the team as managing editor, and Cody Calamaio became associate editor shortly thereafter. On behalf of my Contract team, I wish you a Happy New Year!
