I joined a large number of designers on a beautiful New York morning who gathered for the IIDA Leaders Breakfast today. Made possible by national benefactor Herman Miller and a number of other industry sponsors, the event honors key leaders and innovators, and the audience was inspired by keynote speaker Mick Ebeling, the founder of the nonprofit Not Impossible Foundation.
IIDA Leaders Breakfast co-chairs Bill Bouchey of MMoser Associates and Hilda Longinotti of Herman Miller introduced the event and welcomed designers. Lance Amato, the IIDANY chapter president, gave an update on the chapters programs and initiatives.
The two honorees were Jamie Drake, president and founder of Drake Design Associates and director of the Alpha Workshops, and Maria Cuomo Cole, chair of the board of HELP USA. Cuomo Cole (daughter of Mario, sister of Andrew and Chris, wife of Kenneth Cole) has worked for more than two decades as a leading advocate for the homeless, victims of domestic violence, and at-risk youth. She showed a number of recent examples of housing for the homeless that Help USA has made possible.
Featured speaker Mick Ebeling truly connected with the audience with his presentation about founding the Not Impossible Foundation. Ebeling helped to develop technology that enabled paralyzed graffiti artist Tempt to once again not only communicate but to paint and create art……using only his eyes. You really do need to learn more by visiting his organization’s website notimpossiblefoundation.org.
With Ebeling’s inspiring presentation, l stepping out into the sunshine feeling that attending the IIDA Leaders Breakfast on my birthday morning was more than worthwhile.
