Allsteel is all about the sweeter side of the holidays this season. The office furniture manufacturer held on November 18 its fifth annual Gingerbuild Competition, an event where architects and designers come together to transform traditional gingerbread ingredients into tasty designs.
Fourteen teams competed in the 2010 holiday challenge, held at the Allsteel/Gunlocke Resource Center in Chicago. For each completed “house,” Allsteel donated $50 to the International Interior Design Association’s (IIDA) “What Goes Around” event, which allows the A&D community to help rebuild homes in the Chicago area.
First place went to Whitney Design’s commemoration of the 2010 Stanley Cup Champions Chicago Blackhawks on a replica hockey rink.
Second place was awarded to Perkins Eastman for its version of a CTA Train car.
Third place went to Ghafari Associates for its rendition of the CTA map and Chicago area landmarks.
