In February, a record crowd of 500 gathered for Designs for Dignity’s (D4D) Kick-Off Party for this year’s Spirit Awards. Hosted by The Kohler Store and The Entertaining Company, industry professionals, artists, business supporters and others gathered at the event (photos below) and raised more than $20,000 through ticket sales and a raffle.
Scheduled for May 12, D4D’s 2010 Spirit Awards will honor both individuals and companies in residential and commercial interior design and architecture for their labor done to serve the organization’s sustainability initiatives. The goal of the event is to raise $180,000 for Designs for Dignity, a nonprofit group that serves Chicago-area nonprofits that work with marginalized and at-risk populations.
Hosted by D4D’s Board of Directors and Event Committee, honorees will be recognized for their contributions in three separate categories, which include:
-The D4D Founder’s Award Honoree, to be given to International Interior Design Association (IIDA) for supporting D4D’s non-profit work and creation of new projects and plans to further good design.
-The D4D Spirit Award Honoree, to be given to Beverly Hammel of Beverly Hammel Kitchen & Bath for her service and philanthropic service as a volunteer for Designs for Dignity.
-The D4D Sustainability Award Honoree is Coalesse for addressing sustainability issues head on within its organization and in the community at large.
The event will take place at the Chicago Cultural Center’s Preston Bradley Hall at 78 East Washington Street. Tickets for the awards are $150 and can be purchased at www.designsfordignity.org.
