Reporting Live from Steelcase’s Walkstation

Brad Hammer from Powell/Kleinschmidt blogging live from Steelcase's Walkstation at NEOCON.  It is a bit quiet for a NEOCON Monday, but everyone is in great spirits and…the show must go on!

The first floor lounge display area was definitely a hit and every Vitra lounge grouping had many attendees enjoying the open yet intimate space.  Also, check out the new Artemide Cadmo floor lamps.

Georgeanna Farr (OEC Business Interiors) and Marissa Luehring (P/K) were my hostesses with the mostesses and we decided to start on the 11th floor and work our way down.

Knoll has always been a P/K favorite and they did not disappoint this year.  The colors were vivid and the showroom was young and hip.  Of course Marissa and I did not pass up the chance to get our glamour shot taken in the very popular Generation chair.  The signature Knoll orange background proved to be great for my new tan.

Next up was Tella, and one of my favorite personalities at the Mart, Loretta Martyr.  I highly recommend you stop by and meet her, but also their reception desk display featuring bamboo is very innovative.  Bamboo is a FSC certified wood they have integrated into their line.  It was great to see it used in a piece of furniture rather than flooring.  Not only is Loretta a trend setter, but Tella is too!

Next stop on ten, Coalesse,  they launched a new indoor/outdoor furniture line called Emu.  Five brilliant designers have lept to the next level with a great line of alternative to common outdoor furniture.  Check out their new solar panel lite side tables.  Equally impressive are the planters that live up to their name, they are a bit of Heaven.

Moving along we had to stop by Shaw Contract Group to check out their always inspiring chic club like atmosphere.  Have you ever heard of Zaneville, Ohio…I didn't think so!  Elaine Isabelle, whom was greeting us at the door, is from Zanesville…my hometown.  Our Chicago rep Iris was thrilled to show us their new wool tile collection, which was totally fab-u-lous.

Onwards to the third floor.  Janus et Cie was one of my favorite new additions to contract.  They had a great lounge deejay, Ryan Pullano from the Vibe is Right.  It's a great place to fall in Love with the perfect valet seating.  The Bottle Cap outdoor lite table was popping!!!

Continuing on three, we of course had to stop by Haworth.  Our friend Tim Smith was missing in action, but we did have the honor of meeting one of the designers of the Haworth Lim light, Ralph Reddig.  Haworth deserves bonus points for creativity and how they made their chandeliers magnetic.

Our last stop…Steelcase.  After visiting most of the major furniture manufactures, I was pleasantly surprised to see the busy and lively Steelcase showroom.  Swing by and checkout how they married the Media Scape with HD teleconferencing and make sure to say congrats to Katy Munzell-Kerr, who just got hitched herself.

I walked two miles on the Walkstation as I typed this, not too shabby.  I will be reporting back tomorrow…be excited!

P.S. If I plugged you, I do expect a check.  LOL  🙂
