Scenes from the 34th Annual Interiors Awards

It was a chilly morning in New York, but nevertheless the A+D community ventured out to Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate Contract magazine’s 34th Annual Interiors Awards, Designer of the Year, and Legend. At the January 25 breakfast event, Contract’s John Czarnecki—with the assistance of associate editor Emily Hooper—awarded projects in 13 categories ranging from office to hospitality, with winning designers in attendance who traveled from as far as China and Austria. Joey Shimoda of Shimoda Design Group was named Designer of the Year, preceded by a video presentation highlighting his work for such clients as Steelcase, Mikimoto, TOMS, and J.J. Abrams, among others. The Legend distinction was bestowed upon celebrated architect and industrial designer Michael Graves, who drew a standing ovation from the 600-some attendees when he took the stage.
