Fashion designer Derek Lam has designed the Green Room at the Primetime Emmy® Awards, sponsored by program partner Audi of America. Lam collaborated with architect Neal Beckstedt to execute the project.
“My vision for the Derek Lam brand is modern luxury and uncompromised quality, and Audi vehicles represent these very same principles,” said Derek Lam. “The Primetime Emmy® Awards are about performance, and style, and what better way to celebrate this special night, than by creating a space that brings these very features to life.”
Designed to reflect the quality of both the Audi and Derek Lam brands, the Green Room employs concepts influenced by both brands’ characteristics. Ebonized bamboo flooring in a sophisticated herringbone pattern is set off by draped expanses of silver fabric that skirt the room’s edges, recalling old Hollywood glamour. Furniture selections were curated from collections spanning the early to late twentieth-century. Velvet sofas and leather lounge chairs soften chrome and glass tables. A wooden chaise and floral area rug provide organic counterpoints to minimalist Danish chairs from the 1960s. Illuminated volumes are lacquered in Audi’s signature black car paint.
The elegant space for presenters and award recipients will be featured in “Backstage Live,” as part of an interactive second screen Emmy® experience. The digital multi-screen views on emmys.com and abc.com will show fans footage from behind-the-scenes of the telecast, extra content related to nominees, social media activity, and Red Carpet fashion. The televised program will air on Sunday, September 23 at 7 PM EST.
